Scout Young Leaders Programme at 20th St Albans

While our dedicated Al Fihri Explorer Unit is currently on hold, we offer an outstanding alternative route for young people aged 14 to 18: the Scout Young Leader Programme.

At 20th St Albans, our mission is grounded in core Islamic values: Khidmah (service), Akhlaq (character), and Taqwa (God-consciousness). The Young Leader programme puts these values into direct action, offering a safe, empowering space for young adults to mentor our younger sections (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts) while building real-world leadership skills under the guidance of our experienced adult team.

Why Join the Young Leader Programme?

  • Leadership & Real Confidence: Learn to run activities, manage teams, and lead with empathy and strong moral principles.

  • 1-to-1 Mentoring: Work alongside experienced adult leaders who act as dedicated mentors to support personal growth and development.

  • Full DofE Support & Scouting Top Awards: Complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award directly through Scouts if you are not doing it through school. As a Young Leader, your volunteering, skill-building, and leadership count directly toward Bronze, Silver, and Gold DofE Awards, as well as the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Diamond Awards.

  • Hands-on Training Scheme: Complete 11 short learning modules and 4 practical leadership missions. These build a top-tier CV that stands out on college, university, and job applications.

  • Access to National & International Explorer Events: Young Leaders remain full members of the wider Explorer community, taking part in adventurous activities, contributing programme ideas, and joining District, County, and Muslim Scout Fellowship (MSF) events, including:

    • MSF Annual Explorer Umrah Trip: A unique spiritual journey to Makkah and Madinah with fellow Explorers.

    • MSF International Trips: Cultural and historical tours across destinations like Türkiye, Spain, and Bosnia.

    • MSF Olympics & Summer Camps: National sports competitions, outdoor adventure camps, and track events.

    • MSF International Jamboree: Massive multi-day camps bringing together thousands of Scouts from across the UK and abroad.

  • Priority Volunteering at National MSF Events: Gain hands-on experience on event teams for major occasions like “Iftar Under the Stars" and regional camps—perfect for building project management skills and community service hours.

Our Young Leaders get the best of both worlds: taking on adventurous activities, making new friends, and developing leadership skills locally while staying fully connected to national and international Explorer trips. When you turn 18, you can seamlessly transition to the Scout Network!
