Survival Skills March 10, 2020 (updated September 17, 2022) | By Akela | 0 Comments The Ibn Firnas (Scouts) group were given an initiation into how to build, make and control a fire. Given some cotton and fire making flint, the members were shown how to create the fire in adherence to strict health and safety measures. This session was an important contribution to the Survival Skills Activity Badge.
Air Rifle Tournament March 7, 2020 (updated September 17, 2022) | By Akela | 0 Comments March 2020- The Ian Woods Air Rifle Competition (IWARC) annual Air Rifle competition was held on 7th March at Tolmers Camp and attended by a number of groups from the St Albans district. This was only the 2nd time the Ibn Firnas (Scouts) had taken part and they made a significant improvement from the year before finishing in a respectable 10th place. Congrats to the 4th St Albans group who took home the trophy for the 3rd year running. Next year – the 20th Ansar will be gunning for the top awards!
Coronavirus – Update March 7, 2020 (updated September 17, 2022) | By Akela | 0 Comments We constantly reviewing the situaion in regatds to managing the risk, and we are following the Scout Assocoation guidanc when issued. At the moment we have not been advised to stop events. If you are concerned about the management of the risk please check the Government’s Coronavirus webpage regularly as the situation develops. Our key concerns will be:Members returning from abroad – Members should follow the standard advice on self-isolation if that is applicable to the country visited. Events – If you or your team are organising any Scout events, please make sure you regularly read the latest Government advice and then update your risk assessments. Scout trips abroad – The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website has travel advice and details of any restrictions. Fun in the mud! March 6, 2020 (updated July 21, 2021) | By Akela | 0 Comments Pursuit of the Gardening and Outdoor activity badges were the perfect excuse for the Cubs to get down and dirty in the mud at a local Community Garden! The cubs learnt about gardening tools, lit a fire and then went about getting as messy as possible! Our leaders continue to find creative ways to pursue badges in the most enjoyable ways.
